Serverless Superhero

Our serverless superhero this week is Gunnar Grosch. Gunnar is a Principal Developer Advocate at AWS, based in Sweden. He is an ex-AWS Serverless Hero and is well known for creating techniques and tools to integrate chaos engineering into Serverless architecture. Being deeply engaged with developer communities, he is a frequent speaker and organizer at many conferences, meetups, and tech events all over the world.

Thank you for everything you do, Gunnar!

Tutorials

It is very common that you need to protect your non-production public web applications to be accessed only by a authorized user. Ike Gabriel Yuson explains how we can restrict access to a web application using a password with the help of Lambda@Edge in his blog post: A Short Guide in Using Lambda@Edge to Password-Protect Your Development and Staging Environments.

Kasun de Silva in his blog post De-Bugging with Amazon Q and Generative AI takes us through an example how Amazon Q can streamline serverless debugging process.

Interesting Content

Processing tasks based on priority is an interesting challenge for a software system. Priority Queue Pattern is one of the solutions to achieve this. Joud W. Awad with his blog post Implement A Serverless Priority Queue Pattern explains how to implement such pattern in AWS Serverless and discuss the pros and cons of different approaches such as priority at the queue level and consumer level.

Kiryl Anoshka continues his blog series - Lambda Internals, with a detailed comparison between AWS Lambda and Cloudflare Workers. It is a comprehensive comparison including pricing, limitations, eco-system and availability of integrations, etc.

In Believe in Serverless community, Sandro Volpicella talked about Hashnode’s journey into its public GraphQL API hosted by James Eastham. It is a really interesting talk, packed with all the knowledge Sandro gained from moving Next.js API routes to a serverless GraphQL API.

Spotlight

Last week was quite special for Momento, not only because their product - Momento Topics - a low-latency event bus - was promoted to general availability (GA), but also the company has secured $15M Series A round funding. Great to see this achievement from a company that builds quality products in a developer experience centric approach!

You can read the announcement from Daniela Miao here.

Congratulations Khawaja Shams, Daniela Miao and all of the Momento team for this great achievement 🎉
